Bacteria in Diesel Fuel

Diesel fuel provides an ideal environment for microscopic bacteria to feed and grow
There are:

- dissolved water for germination
- carbon dioxide for food
- oxygen & sulphur for respiration
- trace elements for growth and propagation

As many as 27 types of bacteria infect fuel systems and form bio-films on steel surfaces. accelerated corrosion occurs wherever the bio-film settles, usually in the form of pits or crevices. No one knows when they receive contaminated diesel, but once contaminated diesel enters the fuel system it can be very difficult to eradicate.

Bacteria characteristics

  Diesel fuel provides ideal environment

  At least 27 varieties

When water is present they multiply quickly

Creates a bio film that accelerates corrosion

Bacteria excrement can lower the water & possibly the fuel pH, making it very corrosive
